House

Some relationships end prematurely, others end only after many many months of trying to make it. House is about a love of the latter variety.

House - lyrics

Verse 1:
We were kids playing House in the backyard of my brain.
You pushed me up against the sink and kissed me.
Reality called, “Time for dinner”. I raced you to the door.
Shattered my eyes and soul on your way out
Shattered my eyes and soul on your way out

Chorus:
Oh my dear this is tearing me in two
And the smaller half is the one that wants you          I’m sorry, but it’s true
Now ceilings are carpeted, I’m spinning so confused
All of my heart loves you,
but I’ve got a head too.

Verse 2:
We were kids saying we’d figure it out someday
I crossed my fingers, You prayed “Someday come quickly”
Took our picture in color, painted it black and grey
Train my brain to think it’s been a while
Time heals they said so it’s been a while
Avoid the grief believe it’s been a while ...
I can’t mourn anymore.

Chorus:
Oh my dear this is tearing me in two
And the smaller half is the one that wants you          I hate myself, but it’s true, it’s true
Now ceilings are carpeted, I’m spinning so confused
All of my heart loves you,
but I’ve got a head too.

Outro:
If home is where the heart is
Consider this girl homeless
If home is where the heart is
Consider this girl homeless

This song was written in Tanzania in the Spring of 2016. It chronicles a few days spent with a pathological liar.

Pitter Patter - lyrics

Intro:
Pitter, pitter patter on the wall
rain slants down, the rain it falls
keeping time to your story loll
while you say nothing at all

Verse 1:
you sit with our cigarette ash
under tin roofs and it feels like home
we’re just in a nicotine dream
of figurative means though the smoke it chokes
you hide in your metaphors,
your fancy words, all those gross abstractions
speak out ‘bout a hero’s frailty
but you never tell me, never tell me why
why is it that you have to be
some great, ancient mystery
I’m resigned to watch the water,
it doesn’t falter. such stark contradictions

Chorus:
Pitter, pitter patter on the wall
rain slants down, the rain it falls
keeping time to your story loll
while you say nothing at all

Pitter, pitter patter on the wall
rain slants down, the rain it falls
keeping time to your story loll
while you say nothing at all

(indistinct speaking over instrumental bridge)

Verse 2:
And I am the innocent one
breathing in deep as you heave beside me
speaking out with poetic tongue
mask what you’ve done in manic ramblings
we’re two blue centerlight pops
and the world goes “ah”, but we miss with each other
and you know oh you know you’ve hurt me
but you blame gravity said you couldn't catch me
even then I believe
no one ever been so naive
and as much as I’d love to hit you
I’d rather kiss you no I’d rather miss you.

Chorus:
Pitter, pitter patter on the wall
rain slants down, the rain it falls
keeping time to your story loll
while you say nothing at all

Pitter, pitter patter on the wall
rain slants down, the rain it falls
keeping time to your story loll
while you say nothing at all

At least heavens opening up
At least heavens opening up.
